The Astra is an interesting breed of thermal soaring ship, both a softliner and a competition plane for the F5J-7 class. Having 4 servos (seven channels required) in the wing means the plane has a broad range of soaring capabilities, while brushless motor power allows you to really explore the air.
The fuselage is made of carbon/Kevlar epoxy, wings and removable tail surfaces have carbon D-box and are covered with transparent Oracover. We suggest model to be powered either by brushless outrunner motor or inrunner motor (with gearbox).
Thanks to front fuse diameter of 38 mm (or up to 42 mm), you can use broader range of popular brushless outrunner motors without the additional cost of a gearbox. Catching a thermal is easier with 3 to 4 Li-Po cells, though for increased wind penetration and energy retention we suggest heavier NiMh cells. There is a room for up to 12 Sub C size cells in the fuselage.
We recommend this model to advanced modelers and competitors. We strongly suggest the use of a computer radio with programmable flight modes.
